The naming of Jermaine

Now that we know the baby is a boy we can start thinking of names. I've compiled a list of names I like or of ones that have piqued my interest. Some may seem a little out there - hopefully none of them are vanilla. I put them in alphabetical order so as to keep my preferences out of y'alls opinions. Please give me honest feedback on the names - just ones that you have a strong reaction to - positive or negative- unless it is related to a playground bully - weird nicknames or initial thoughts would be great. Someone told me the other day that the nickname for Oliver is Ollie and that name came off the list very, very quickly. So your input is valued.

Charles
Elijah
Gabriel
Gavin
Henry
Isaac
Isaiah
Keaton
Kennedy
Liam
Luke
Nolan
Quinn
Sawyer
Tavish
Wilson

Gabriel is one of my personal favorites. I considered it for a boy when I didn't know my baby was girl. Then one day at chruch, someone mentioned 'gay'. Children are cruel, chanses are that your little guy will be called 'hey gay' (for gabriel).

When you say Nolan, I picture Matt's uncle Nolan. He is very tall, large, like a truker dude. His hair and beard are freely flowing in the wind like Moses and he has a lazy eye (kindda like ZZTop with a lazy eye and not as well off)

Quinn is bad too: 'Sisi Quinnie, what are you afraid of.... '

Tavish sounds like TAvistoch, a city in Russia.

Wilson is Willie. 'Hey small willie...'

I do like Isaac, Isaiah, Elijah and Gavin. Charles and Luke are not bad either. They are very cute names!

Ummmm... as you know the short hand for Gabriel is of course Gabe. Never once heard someone named Gabe being called "gay" anymore than anyone else. Its a stupid taunt anyway. (The Gabe I knew best (I know you said you weren't looking for I knew a guy who's...) grew up to be a doctor and a really nice guy.)

The Quinn one? Dude I don't even understand that one (the taunt above) so I doubt kids will get it.

I say the above because I like all the names you mentioned. Kennedy in my limited experience has been a girl's name although it is probably one of those gender neutral names.

Nicole is reminded of the swirling dervishes when she hears Tavish. The Swirling Tavishes? - She's nuts.

Nicole says you should pick the easiest name to say because you'll be saying it a million times. She's lazy. Also she suggests you practice yelling the name to see which one flows off your tongue easiest and most melodically as you'll be gettin' your yell on at least a few times. (Like up to and including when your kid is nearly 30. Perhaps you see how our week has been bad?)

One last thing... will there be a lot of boys named Elijah and Sawyer the next few years? Elijah Woods? Sawyer from Lost? Some food for thought.

Enjoy your continued name search although I say just go with Jermaine.

Thanks for the input. I, too have never heard of "gay" being the nickname for Gabriel. As far as Tavish goes, I'm raising an American kid; if he knows where Russia is, let along a city other than Moscow, I'll be pleased.
It does seem that everyone is pegging Kennedy as a girl's names.
I don't think Elijah and Sawyer are going to go through the stratosphere anytime soon (check out the Social Security Administration's website on baby names) they are ranked pretty low. Elijah is #29 (same as my name the year I was born & I meet very few April's) and Sawyer is #247.
I will tell Ryan we have one vote for Jermaine, though. :)
Crina, if you are reading this good - it means you are sitting down.

In the last few years I heard lots of hawaiian names along with many philipino and many weird names. Here is a list of some of my client's names: Simion, Emmanuel, Jadon, Kanalu, Jayden, Jesus :), Logan, Kilian, DaChaun, Manae. Do you see what names I have to say all the time? Quinn I think is a girl name. I like Nolan and Isaiah. If you name him Elijah he can be called Eli (which I think is cute). Good luck with name picking.

It's funny to hear everyone's responses. Thus far no one has said anything about Nolan - good or bad and everyone thinks of Kennedy as a girls name but not Quinn. Yeah, those names you listed are something else. Ryan vetoed Elijah because it doesn't go with our last names. I think its between Isaac and Gavin.
